Get Involved

Despite the current circumstances, we still have plenty of opportunities to get involved over the coming term! If you are interested in being in the cast or production team for a show, or just want to socialise, take a look at our auditions, call for applications, and event dates here!

Auditions:

Iolanthe (Full cast audio recording): The Gilbert and Sullivan Society is back and bringing you an exciting COVID safe Michaelmas term production of Iolanthe! Rather than an in-person show, this will be a full audio recording including dialogue, something you can share with friends and family no matter where they are. Auditionees will be required to record a video reading an extract and performing a short song.
For more details, please see our audition pack.
Deadline: 18:00 Thursday 15th October
Please send your auditions to our Producer, Emily, at et460@cam.ac.uk.
If you have any questions, queries or concerns please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!

Production team opportunities:

Iolanthe (Full cast audio recording): We’re looking for fun and enthusiastic production team members for Iolanthe! No experience is required, this is a great chance to meet people, get involved in the musical theatre scene and learn about directing and producing. As this is the G&S Society fresher’s show, we’re particularly keen to see first years and anyone who is new to theatre in Cambridge. This will be an audio only production, so it will be relatively low commitment compared to an in person production.
Applicants should answer the following questions:
Assistant Director(s)

  • Why are you interested in this show?
  • How do you view the role of assistant director?
  • Any ideas you have for the show (particularly focussing on the needs of an audio only production!)
  • Any experience (none needed)
  • If you were a fairy, what kind would you be?
Assistant Musical Director
The AMD will work with the MD to conduct rehearsals and prepare music for the orchestral arrangement. At times the AMD may have to conduct vocal sessions, eg, for choral rehearsals, without the MD, but the majority of the rehearsals will be done in tandem. Please feel free to email our Musical Director, Daniel (dgq20@cam.ac.uk) with any questions about this role.

We are looking for someone with creative ideas and an open mind, so that we can make this a success among both the students of the university and the wider public!
